Davide
Rossi, born Turin, Italy, August 1970. Started playing piano at the age of 4 and
picked up the violin when he was 10. Went on to the Conservatory 'G. Verdi' in
Turin in 1981 and achieved the Diploma in 1992 at the omonimo Conservatory in
Milan with Maestro Ivan Krivensky. By the time he was 15, started working in
studios and playing live with all sorts of bands and artists belonging to the
Italian underground scene. Joined Robert Fripp's guitar school 'Guitar Craft' in
1990 and followed his courses intensively for a period of about four years. By
then, he also started collaborating with some of the most important Italian
artists in vogue at the time: Mau Mau, Afterhours, Vinicio Capossela, Bluvertigo
and Cristina Donà. In 1994, moved to England. During a session at Terra
Incognita studios in Bath, 1998, met Will Gregory of Goldfrapp
(www.goldfrapp.com). The summer of 2000 saw the birth of the first Goldfrapp's
live line up. Davide has been touring with them throughout the Feltmountain tour
(2000-2001), Black Cherry tour (2003-2004) and Supernature tour (2005-2006). In
2002 joined Cirque du Soleil for about 11 months, to perform in their best
selling show Dralion, which took place in the west-coast of America. In the same
year he appeared on the Raymond Scott album 'Kodachrome', as solo violinist
accompanied by the Metropole Orchestra. These days, his work as string arranger
and producer is taking most of his time. Amongst others, he has recently been
recording contributions to Siouxsie’s new upcoming album. That will be followed
by work on Coldplay’s next album (produced by Eno). Davide plays an Esposti
acoustic violin from Cremona, a 7 strings violectra (electric violin which
covers the range of a whole string quartet) and a 5 strings violectra double
bass viola.
