CONCERT REVIEW: Nigel
Kennedy, Symphony Hall, Sunday 21st September 2008
Congratulations to Nigel Kennedy and his quartet of Polish musicians
on their superb concert performance at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham
on Sunday 21st of September2008. Nigel and his quartet played
selections mostly from “A Very Nice Album” their new double
album, to a very appreciative audience. My particular favourite of
the evening were “Hills Of Saturn” and the latin tinged “Where
All Paths Meet”. Nigel’s mastery of his Violectra electric
violin is complete, using a battery of pedals and processors to
great effect, sometimes subtle, sometimes more extreme but always
with Nigel in control. He has that rare ability to integrate devices
with his playing, making them a natural extension of his instrument.
The night passed all too quickly, Nigel and his fellow musicians
seemed reluctant to leave and rewarded us with a blistering “Third
Stone From The Sun” and “Sudel” (from “The Blue Note
Sessions”) for encores.
Mike O’Neill, Moseley Violins.
